Shirdi is the abode of the famous Indian saint Shri Sai baba. Shri Sai Baba is revered
as one of the greatest saints ever seen in India, endowed with unprecedented powers,
and is worshipped as a God incarnate. Shirdi is one of the most honored among the
spiritual destinations of India and is situated in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra
near the sacred city of Nasik. Shirdi is situated at a distance of approximately
200 km to the north of Pune city and 300 km to the east of Mumbai city.
Sai Baba entered this village when he was 16 years of age. He appeared under a neem
tree and was engaged in a hard self-mortification. The saint devoted his entire
life for the betterment of the poor and the suffering. The whole village and every
corner of it have some association with Shri Sai Baba. The great saint left for
heavenly abode in 1918.
Throughout the year large numbers of devotee come to Shirdi to seek the blessings
of Shri Sai Baba who is believed to cure incurable diseases as well. A strange mystic
aura seems to exude from here that is simply enchanting and thus tourism in Shirdi
has also experienced considerable growth.
Shirdi is dotted with many religious sites that are visited by many tourists no
matter to which religion they belong to. Secondly, as Shirdi is gaining huge popularity
it is attracting large number of foreign tourists as well. The key attractions of
Shirdi are Sai Baba mandir and his samadhi, Dwarkamai, Gurusthan, Chavadi, Lendi
Baug, Maruti Mandir, Chawadi and Samadhi of Abdulbaba.
The climate in Shirdi is pleasant for the most part of the year, but a good time
to have a relaxed vacation with your family would be between the months of January
and March. Since the crowded months are from September to November, it is better
to book your hotel rooms in advance.
The streets of the holy town are full of shops which sell Sai Baba record of his
life. Any one can visit the holy place easily. The town is well developed and is
connected by bus routes.
