Panaji

Old Goa

It is at a distance of nine km east of Panaji, having a few grand churches and cathedrals which are among the largest in Asia. Margaon

It is the commercial capital of Goa. This place is home to magnificent churches built in Portuguese style. Margaon is an extremely clean city that abounds in lush green vegetation. It is the capital of Salcete taluk. Margao has a rich history to boast about. During the pre-independence period ancient Margao was known to be the temple town of the country. Much before the Portuguese colonizers settled down in this part of the country this region was home to innumerable temples. From the time the Portuguese settlers strengthened their base in Margaon most of the Hindu temples were destroyed. Christianity was propagated and a multitude of churches were established. The Largo de Igreja, or the Church of the Holy Spirit as it is also known, dominates the entrance to the city, just north of the Municipal Garden square. The church area is surrounded by beautiful old residential houses still in pristine condition. The church was built by the Portuguese in 1675 and is one of the finest examples of late-Baroque architecture in Goa, having a pristine white façade and an interior dripping with gilt crystal and stucco. The famous "House of Seven Gables" or "Sat Burzam Ghor" is a magnificent mansion it was commissioned in 1790 by Sebastino da Silva, emissary and private secretary of the Portuguese Viceroy. Presently only three gables exist.

Mapusa

The name Mapusa is derived from the Konkani term, maap, which means measure and sa which means fill up. Mapusa is the third largest city in the state of Goa and has a history of its own. Mapusa was a well developed gaunkari or community farming system. Bodhgeshwar Temple is the temple where your wishes are fulfilled. The local goan's have great faith in this temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Bodhgeshwar who sat below a banyan tree and solved the problems of the people who came in. The Church of Our Lady of Miracles which is also known as St Jerome's Church, located on St Jerome's road. It is an ancient church dating back to 1594. It was during this year that the church was first built. Thereafter, it was reconstructed a number of times. The church has some interesting architectural elements to grasp your attention like the gabled facade. However, the popularity of the church is more because of its feasts.

Calizz

Is the must visit place and attraction in Goa which is popularly called "The Heart of Goa". This is actually a museum detailing the various stages of Goan life through the ages. It is spread over several acres near the Candolim beach. Calizz which means 'heart' in Konkani is a collection of artifacts of the bygone era as well as life size models.

The tour of Calizz begins with the typical Catholic house of the Portuguese era. The central theme revolves around the folklore of that era that if you had three sons, you gave one to the society, one to God and one to the medical profession.
