ITA Fort

Historical place in itanagar, Arunachal pradesh is the ITA Fort situated at the heart of the capital city in Papum Pare district. It is a historical fort of an irregular shape, built mainly with bricks, dating back to the 14th 15th centuries. The total brickwork done on the fort comprise of 16,200 cubic m. length. There are also three gates on three sides viz Eastern, Western and Southern, which is said to be built by Ahom rulers. The name Itanagar is believed to be derived from the name of this fort.

The Buddhist Temple

This is a new but beautiful yellow - roofed shrine. It rises from well maintained grounds behind a stupo tree planted by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The ground of the temple offers a beautiful view of the Itanagar Town.


Malinithan near Likabali in West Siang district is a site of rich granite Sculptures belonging to 14-15 century A.D. the more important being Indra on Airavata, Surya on Chariot and the huge Nandi bull. The temple dedicated to Goddess Durga at Malinithan is built on the classical tradition of Orissa. According to the local legend associated with the place, Lord Krishna carried away Rukmini the daughter of King Bhismaka on the eve of her marriage with Shishupal. Krishna and Rukmini were welcomed here by Parvati with garlands. Parvati thus acquired the name malini and the place Malinithan.

Parashuram Kund

Parashuram Kund in the lower reaches of Lohit river is the legendary place where Sage Parashuram atoned of his sins. It is a place of pilgrimage and on Makara Sankranti day people in large numbers come to have a holy dip in the Kund.

Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum

Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum is located at Itanagar in Papum Pare District of Arunachal Pradesh. The museum displays extensive ethnographic collection of local tribes including wood carvings, musical instruments, textiles, handicrafts and archaeological finds. The museum also holds a library and a handicraft center which specializes in traditional cane manufacture.

District Museum

District Museum is an art museum located at Bomdila, the administrative headquarters of West Kameng District. Established in 1956, the museum exhibits objects of art and crafts and ethnographic materials belonging to the tribes of Arunachal Pradesh.

Jaswant Garh

An Indian Army War Memorial, commemorating the bravery of hundreds of Soldiers who successively fought in the 1962 war against the Chinese. Jaswant Singh Rawat, who along with two other soldiers bravely fought of the Chinese Army invading Tawang, during the battle of Nuranang. For his outstanding act of gallantry Jaswant Singh Rawat was posthumously awarded with the Mahavir Chakra. His two colleagues L Nk. Trilok Singh Negi, along with Rfn Gopal Singh Gusain, were awarded with the Vir Chakra.

Bhismaknagar Fort

Located nearly thirty km from Roing it dates back to 8th century BC. Among the forts in Arunachal Pradesh this fort is recorded as the oldest archaeological site in this region. It lies in Dibang Valley district. The fort is sacred heritage of the Idu Mishmis. It is a symbol of past glory and portrays the high standard of civilization that once presented the splendor of Bhismaknagar.
